For Immediate Release Sanctuary is helping to protect the Environment by participating in the Think Recycle Fundraising program. This will be in addition to the recycle program for cans and bottles currently in place at the McKelvey Creek Landfill. Sanctuary is embarking on a mutually beneficial partnership with Think Recycle, a community based environmental fund raising program, created by Greentec. Sanctuary will gather used print cartridges and cell phones in the community and forward them to Greentec in Ontario. Greentec donates money to Sanctuary for every qualifying cartridge and cell phone collected. Think Recycle has been responsible for the diversion of more than 1 million cartridges from landfills and has provided nearly 3 million in funding to its participants. Another added bonus is that Greentec donates one tree to the Tree Canada Foundation for every 12 qualifying cartridges or cell phones surrendered. The Think Recycle program has been responsible for the planting of over 31,000 trees to date, removing 54 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere. Over 300 million empty printer cartridges are generated in North America every year. That is 900,000,000 pounds of waste that potentially goes into landfills every year. Sanctuary is hoping to establish collection boxes in larger worksites throughout the city of Trail and will pick them up on a monthly basis. Smaller businesses and individuals can drop off laser and ink jet cartridges that have not been refilled and working cell phones to Sanctuary at 1705 Bay Avenue between 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM Monday through Friday.
