Red Mountain Resort Profile
Red Mountain Resort is one of the oldest and most famous ski resorts in Canada. It was the site of the first World Cup race in Canada and the location of the Canadian Downhill Championships. Olympic gold medalists Kerrin Lee-Gartner and Nancy Greene are among Red Resort's famous ski racers.
Red offers two peaks, 1,596 acres, and 2,900 vertical feet of all-natural snow and an additional 4,000 acres just outside the resort boundary. You will find terrain covered with an abundance of the light, dry powder the Monashee Mountains are known for, and perfectly spaced trees that protect the snow for days after it's fallen.
Choose from wide-open groomed slopes or tree runs with untouched powder. Whether you're a beginner or expert, Red is a welcome retreat from the scene at over-crowded resorts. New for 2006/07: The area is cutting new intermediate runs below the famed "Slides," giving learning skiers and boarders even more terrain to play in.

Services Profile A shuttle service (set schedule) will take you to and from Rossland (5 min. away from Red Resort). Ski rental, repair, lessons, rental lockers and childcare available. You will find a terrain park, beginner area with carpet, the Red Express, a 15-passenger shuttle service to/from the Spokane Airport, lounge, boutique, cafeteria in the base area and Paradise lodge found at the top of Granite mountain.
Area Recreation Profile Cross country skiing, snowshoeing, backcountry touring, telemarking, snowmobiling, aquatic center, paragliding, snowmobiling and an abundance of summer activities for everyone to enjoy.
Snowboarding Profile The most talked about Terrain Park in the Kootenay's was professionally designed by Jeff Patterson. Red has provided boarders and skiers with enough jumps, rails, tabletops, spines and rollers to keep them busy all season. Caters to boarders of all abilities.
Canadian Open Freeskiing Championships
The Canadian Open Freeskiing Championships returns to Red Mountain Jan. 12, 2008.
Registration for the gnarly event already is open with limited spots being snapped up quick by the fast and the fearless. The competition challenges the best riders to pick a radical route on Link’s Line and in Papoose Bowl and run with it. The event is open to everybody seven years old and up, with both an amatuer and pro event.
This year’s prize pool is over $12,500.
Gondola still in works for Red Mountain
In late 2006, Rossland Mayor, Gordon Smith mentioned that there was talk of putting a Gondola in at Red Mountain. Fast forward to December 2007 and the talk of a gondola came up again.
Rossland City Council received interest in conducting a pre-feasibility study for the Gondola that would link up Rossland and Red. The project is being studied to see what kind of barriers have to be overcome, and the city has expressed they will work with community futures in applying for the grant for the study.
The tram station would be located at the public works yard in Rossland where passengers would be taken to the top of Red Mountain.
