The City of Trail lies at an elevation of 420 metres (1,360 ft) and is nestled in the Columbia River Valley of southeastern British Columbia, 19km north of the US Border. The closest major city is Kelowna at 309km. Vancouver is 626 km to the west and Calgary is 656 km to the east. Spokane, Trail’s U.S. neighbour to the south, is 220 km.
City Bus Transit
The Regional District of the Kootenay Boundary, in contract with BC Transit, operates a regional transportation service in the Greater Trail area. The transit services are operated from Trail and serve the communities of Rossland,Warfield,Genelle, Montrose and Fruitvale. The Regional Transit Services also provides a Handi-Dart service on a reservation system for the elderly and disabled in the community.

Travel/Tour Bus
The city is also served by Greyhound Bus Lines via a local charter bus company, Dickens Bus Lines, Ltd. Connections are made daily with the Greyhound system at Castlegar and Salmo.
Airport The Castlegar Airport, located 30 minutes from Trail, acts as a regional airport for the Kootenay Region.The airport is served by Canadian Regional Airlines and Air BC with daily flights between Vancouver and Calgary.
The Columbia Gardens Airport (Trail Municipal Airport) lies south of Trail and is used by local pilots and the BC Air Ambulance Service. The Spokane International Airport provides full USA and International air service from Spokane, WA and is located approximately 190 km south of Trail.
